Essay on Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis as Wartime Presidents

The 16th president of the United States Abraham Lincoln and the only president of the Confederate Jefferson Davis have much to account for with respect the events of the Civil War (Chadwick). For Lincoln it was the fight for a unified America and abolition of slavery while for Davis it was more of maintaining political and economic integrity by means of establishing a separate Confederate. Lincoln had a view that only the abolition of slavery could help save the Union, while Jefferson meant no harm to the system of slavery. While, apparently it appears that the system of slavery was the first stone in the safety of the Confederate for Jefferson. While both the presidents had their causes, that were in fact quite dissimilar, but they had one perfect similarity- they both were dedicated and committed to their cause, one in saving the Union and the other in saving the Confederate.

Where Abraham’s objective was quite plain and simple and led to the present day America, Jefferson had a much stricter rule. Its true that even Robert E. Lee was troubled by the position of slavery in the south and many others too in South having prominent standing had requisitions and conservations about the system of slavery. Nevertheless, we do not see any flexibility in the standing and position of Jefferson with respect to slavery. Probably he was also a very prominent owner of a big plantation. But so was Abraham. While the Civil War was intentionally fought to restore and maintain the slavery system in the region and to establish sovereignty in the South and the North, however, Lincoln made sure that the war was not unidirectional and did not have just a limited and confined aim (Stefoff).

The civil war was fought for the restoration of rights and the establishment of a democratic Union that in fact made way for the American Revolution............
