Essay on The Politics Presidents Make

Stephen Skowronek speaks of the games that the US presidents play in ‘The Politics Presidents Make: Leadership from John Adams to Bill Clinton’. Written in 1997 Skowronek gives a far-reaching denunciation of the viewpoint of Richard Neustadt with respect to the presidential leadership that he made in his book ‘Presidential Power’. Stephen confronts the assertions and views of Neustadt regarding the presidents that make a separate assemblage of officials after the FDR. This is due to the reason that the invariable tests of contemporary times cannot amalgamate with the official authorities of the president. Stephen very clearly in his book gives that the today’s president is nothing but a clerk working in the highest office and leaves no space for the things to get really done and going. There is no use of authority and delegation of authority in the presidents that make them modern enough to just do things that are already done in a routine fashion. He commends the presidents beyond the modern age who were in fact the presidents and not mere dummies in the presidential office.

Skowronek gives that such presidencies are just an arrogance that the presidents are affected by in these modern times. He discusses various presidents of the modern times and analyses their power structures and how these power structures were used or misused in their times and how the delegation of authority acronym was never heard or lest practiced by these modern presidents. Using power and authority, according to Skowronek, does not mean that one could thing him or her in the position to act big or be big to whatever the circumstances are. Here, Skiwronek gives that the distinctiveness in presidents of pre-modern times and modern times is not just what was and is perceived to be an act of greatness................
