Essay on Death Penalty
Death penalty is the most questionable and controversial practice today. The concept of capital punishment as a way of deterrence, justice, control and remedy is in practice in the past societies. The same is being practiced even now in some of the countries. The idea of deterrence associated with capital punishment make serves it purpose but any judicial system not based on the principal of justice can’t be trusted. Forfeiting the right to live when some one commits a heinous crime leads to the idea that no chance be given to the criminal to amend himself. The opponents of the death punishment also argue that it is irrational for governments to kill in order to show that killing is wrong. In the present circumstances a better and more influential judiciary system is required to award the punishments. The punishments must lead towards correcting the criminals rather than making them loose the lives. In most of the criminal proceedings the efforts are made by the opponents to prove their cases in the courts though logic, references and circumstances. This leaves the justice system to decide on the matters presented and in case the criminals have strong arguments they are often left unpunished and the innocents are punished. The rulers in order to establish their power award death punishments to the opponents on small offenses. The death punishments in such cases are based on prejudice and injustice.
The death penalty does not prove to be deterrence but aggravates the crime if the justice is over come by discrimination. Death penalty was once practiced in most of the nations and in the late 20th century, some countries abolished the death penalty, imposing life sentences instead. The capital punishment is some times considered to be a basis for a better social and judicial system..............
