The railways played a very important role in traveling and transportation, one can easily say that the introduction of railroads and starting journey by train has changed the human life style. The United States of America has a vast net work of railroads. The railroads in US have been divided in different regions, the Southwest Region consists of California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona in particular. The South Western Region has a modern and sophisticated system of railway traffic, freight and passenger /commuter trains.
In California state's two major systems, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and UP, each have portable generators in place at most of their major locomotive servicing facilities. Ditto for hump yards and other locations where electrically thrown track switches are in use.Although few railroad facilities are equipped with automatic power, the down time between any blackout and the railroads' own truck-mounted generators coming on-line is but a few minutes. With a little judicious planning, say railroad spokespeople, most operations should continue unabated.
Southern California's transportation system was subjected to speculative manipulation from the time of the railroads, through the period of the electric interurban trolleys and the rise of the automobile up until the energy crisis of the 1970s. The dominant underlying force in each period is shown to have been combinations of developer-speculators and local politicians. These groups, motivated by a desire for rapid development for speculative reasons, were able to exercise effective control over the provision of major infrastructural improvements.
The boom of imported goods have brought more business not only to shipping and docking companies, but also to railroads that take them across the U.S.As congestion worsens at the West Coast's busiest ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, more cargo ships are heading north. Railroads in Seattle plan to spend billions of dollars to expand...............
