George Wallace is one the political figures of The United States and the governor of Alabama and presidential applicant known for his antidesegregation stand. Wallace was born in Clio, Alabama, and educated at the University of Alabama. After serving as an assistant attorney general of Alabama, a member of the state legislature, and a district court judge, Wallace was chosen governor, serving from 1963 to 1967. As governor, he individually blocked the door of the University of Alabama to black students in 1963, although backed down when faced with federal troops. Not entitled to accomplish something for himself, he had his wife, Lurleen Burns Wallace, run for governor in his place in 1966, and she was elected. Wallace sought the U.S. presidency in 1968 as candidate of the American Independent Party, running on antidesegregation issues, respect for law and order, and freedom from excessive federal control; he received 13.5 percent of the popular vote and 46 electoral votes from five southern states.( Calabresi, Steven G (2001)

Race was the most important matter in the campaign, and Wallace’s challenger, John Patterson, used it to win votes (most blacks were still unable to vote). Wallace, following Folsom’s example, did not use race as an issue, and it cost him the election. In 1962, however, Wallace ran on a platform of support for segregation and made race the foundation of his movement. This time he won effortlessly. In 1966 he supported the election of his wife, Lurleen, to clutch on his policies until he was suitable for another term. Two years into office, however, she died of cancer. In 1968 Wallace ran for president of the United States as the candidate of the American Independent Party................
