Essay On Dance Performance Critique

The name of the jazz corporation who performed was called ‘The Parsons Dance Company’. It implicated four pieces, stand back, and sleep study, caught and nascimento. As soon as the dance performance progressed the spectators could tell instantaneously that the dancers were well geared up. Overall, the entire collection was interesting to watch.  All of the dancers were talented and knew their parts well.

The initial dance performance called Stand back was an exceedingly fine feat in which strobe illumination of light had been used. The dancers in reality danced with the lights, which seemed as if rays of sun were playing on the arena through an opening or a window.

One of the superlative piece of the concert was at a time during the performance was of flashlights being used in an “on and off motion” (Sawyer, 1998). The dancers used the flash lights and one of the dancers was actually jumping, while the lights were going on and off on the stage, it seemed as if he was flying since he was landing on the floor when the lights were off and he would be appear on the sky when the lights are on. Spectators in fact would only see the fraction when the lights were on, and he was on the sky for the duration of that time, seemed like he was airborne.

The choice of music was not good at all, I did not enjoy listening to the music but it went well with the performance. Hopefully some “deeper profound meaning” (Balmer, 2003) is not missed when I say that I think that the piece of music was nice because it just had dancers dancing to it.

I welcomed the simple costumes, but I am unsure how choreography had matched the outfits. For one thing one of the lead girl dancer was wearing a skirt while the other one was wearing pants. For me the costumes did not make up for the lack of music....
