Essay on Foundations In Chinese Medicine
The foundations of the Chinese medicine are altogether different from normal medicine principles. It is a blend of both long-established folk medicine and such medical regulations as acupuncture and herbal medicine. The Chinese medicine is substitute to the western medicine. The Chinese believed that disease results from the imbalances of the two life forces Yin and Yang that flow through the body. All the drugs and the medicines were used to restore the balance.
The herbal medicines play a vital role in the treatment of the diseases. These medicines include iron, mercury, arsenic and even opium for making of the herbal medicines. The theory of Chinese medicine is based on Yin Yang theory, which is very old and is based on 5 basic elements. These elements include water, wood, metal, earth and fire.
The traditional Chinese medicine according to the western thinkers is just "an explanatory theory and is not meant as binding doctrine"[Kaptchuk]. But he fact is that this medicine is under active practice since thousands of years with effective results. This medicine is taken as complete treatment that can provide essential and specific care.

Taoism primarily concentrates on the laws of universe and the medicine is based on the basic principle derived from Taoism. The gist of these principles is that life is interconnected and a systematic approach is needed to live. The natural laws govern the whole universe. Being part of the universe the humans exist in accordance to these laws.
