Introduction
Thomas Edison belonged to the American Progressive Era that is characterized by the rapid industrialization. The present day modern America has much to owe to the inventions of Thomas Alva Edison. The impact of his inventions is so momentous that it changed the American society and cradled it in to the era of technology.
Discussion
There is along list of Edison’s inventions and his successes (Conot, 1979). There is also a list of his failures, like the DC against the success of AC. Nevertheless, the things that Edison left behind did have great impact on the living standards of not just the American people but also all around the world. When a small child in grade fourth is asked who invented bulb, the quick answer would be Edison. Without any doubts, Edison has a patented place in the minds and hearts of many people.
The era of progression in America is mostly characterized as the era when many new inventions surfaced. A lot were success, while even more were failures. That era of progression tuned in to the era of technology of the 21st century. In the present day, the ordinary American life is influenced by the advancements in technology. Today, an American could leniently take any invention as being an ordinary one and would probably assume that given the advancements at the present, such inventions were foreseen (Josephson, 1959). However, this taken for granted attitude was not the inheritance of the people that lived in Edison’s time. At that time, any invention was really an invention. At present, we are doomed to think that technology has enabled us to foresee the improvements or destructions of the time to come.
