Belgian-born Ann Demeulemeester studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. A master deconstructionist and legendary in cutting great pants, she was part of the group of young designers who emerged from Belgium during the 1980s.

Ann Demeulemeester's boutique, a vast, loft-like space on two floors, is worth the trip. "Everyone was expecting Le Corbusier, but this is not about modernism," the designer said. "This is a 19th century building in the middle of Antwerp, so we had to work with that."
In fact, the building originally housed a school for sailors and sits on a corner of the square called Leopold de Waelplaats, opposite the Museum of Fine Art.
