Essay on Abraham
Although the birth of Abram (Abraham's) is recorded at the end of parashat Noah as quoted in Chapter 11 of King James Bible “And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran” (Verse 26) “Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.” (Verse 27) According to some calculations by Masoretic Hebrew Torah, Abraham was born 1,948 years after creation and lived for 175 years, which would correspond to a life spanning from 1812 BCE to 1637 BCE by Jewish dating; or from 2166 BCE to 1991 BCE by other calculations
Abraham is considered to be the first true biblical personalities and one of the greatest heroes in human history. The story of Abraham begins when God first speaks to him when he was seventy five years old as Chapter 12 of King James Bible illustrates, “So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.” (Verse4) This means that Abraham lived his whole life without prophecy, without any kind of outside confirmation that his ideology of monotheism is correct, and this says a lot about Abraham's dedication to truth.
Abraham was raised in the time period when people worshipped idols ands he was the only one who recognized the existence of single God, the Creator and Manager of the entire universe. He was said to consist of noble traits even before he was chosen to be the messenger of God. As Buchwald's writes “Abraham demonstrated extraordinary compassion to his orphaned nephew Lot, who joined Abraham as he set out to journey to the land of Canaan.
