Essay on James Herriot
James Herriot Wight was took birth in Roker, Sunderland where his parents were from, but his had his upbringing in Glasgow where at the age of 23 he became eligible as a veterinarian. He continued to live there until after he had qualified as an animal doctor at the Glasgow Veterinary College.
Growing up, he never wanted to be anything other than a veterinarian. After going to school in Glasgow he dreamed of having a cutting-edge and flashy practice. He instead wound up, in his own words, "sitting on a high Yorkshire moor in shirt sleeves and Wellingtons, smelling vaguely of cows." But he fell in love with Yorkshire and the challenging life of a country veterinarian. After over twenty-five years as a veterinarian, Herriot started writing.
He shifted to Thirsk in North Yorkshire in the year 1940, from where he was trained until shortly before his death in 1995. James Herriot is the pen name of James Alfred Wight. He was an only son of a shipbuilder and a mother who was fond of singing on the stage. In spite of the severe poverty of his infancy, little Alf was loved and his parents coped to send him to good sufficient schools that he could have the education he required to become a vet, an objective he had from a very little age.
Wight lived as well as did his work in the Yorkshire dales his the entire life, and it was not till he was in his 50s that friends convinced him to write concerning his incidents, as a result starting the amazing Herriot industry that made him the world's most well-known vet and one of the best-selling and well-loved writers of a present time.
