Milliken is one of the few U.S. mills still enthusiastically pursuing proprietary, trademarked fabrics. Furthermore it is perhaps the largest confidentially owned mill in the world. At the same time as much of its volume comes from home furnishings and industrial fabrics, it is still a major player in apparel fabrics, especially for menswear. Trademarked fabrics include Visa; Visa Endurance (a new fabric that controls odor for the life of the garment and provides moisture management), Comfort ease and Clear guard (stain and wrinkle resistant fabrics) and Stain Smart (a fabric that resists stains and allows ground-in stains to wash out easily). Partners with retailers to develop apparel programs. It is a privately held manufacturer of finished fabrics for rugs and carpets, as well as other synthetic fabrics. It also makes chemicals and petroleum products. It is headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina and employs about 14,000 people.

Its employees work in more than 60 facilities worldwide, including in the US, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Spain and the UK.
