Introduction
In this paper, some aspects related to the development of a capability for automation in Belle’s Fine Food Company are considered. There is an increasing requirement for obtaining a capability for computing, information processing and automation in all companies in order to cut down costs related to routine tasks and to provide for a capability related to data processing and the gathering of business intelligence (Raymond, 1995).
A time and attendance system for a company is required in order to maintain discipline in the work force and to monitor their performance. There are many different types of employees in an organization and for some of these workers, it is essential to be available on time to perform their job-function. Those employees who have to deal directly with the customers or the public have to be very punctual, while the employees who are associated with research or other creative endeavors in which the product quality and creative output is of the utmost importance work in strange ways and are hence given the freedom to do their jobs. Sales people and executives are in and out of the office while freelancers and contract workers may be required to put in certain number of hours. The attendance system maintains records for every employee and assists in the preparation of payroll as well as performance reports for human resources. It is for these reasons that an attendance system is important because it does the functions related to maintaining attendance in a far more cost effective as well as friendly manner then a human (Freddie, 2004).
In this paper, an attempt is made to look at a textual description of an attendance system that describes the interactions which take place in the process of recording attendance.
