Nissay Dowa is a substantial insurance company in Japan which has been on a path to provide the latest internet based insurance related services to its customers since 2002. In October, 2003 the company implemented an internet based service which it named “Fure Ai Hot Net” for its policy holders so that they could interact with the company and enquire about its insurance products.
The company provides a full range of insurance products, including life assurance, personal accident cover and motor insurance amongst others. Because the company has an extensive customer base associated with a variety of products, the cost savings associated with moving from an employee based human system to an computerized web based system in which the customers can self serve can be substantial. Not only can the customers easily satisfy their information requirements, but the visit data and their interests can be recorded to generate valuable information about their requirements. Data collected from the site can be processed using computers with XML being the enterprise standard for integration. The processed data could then be used for ERP purposes by the insurer.
The system was designed using Xpriori’s Neocore XMS, XML management system. XML was chosen because of its standardization and the need to integrate a variety of technologies and departments. Because XML has become a global standard, therefore the use of this standard also ensured continuity and integration with any future products that may be required to be deployed. The site customer related data can also be data mined using data mining tools with a capability to data mine data stored in XML databases. Although the data storage capability was provided by Neocore, Polarlake, an Irish company which is an emerging standard in XML enterprise integration products provided the capability for enterprise integration to enable the use of the collected data for a variety of purposes....
