Essay on Web Work
In recent years the World Wide Web WWW or Web has grown rapidly as a dissemination tool for different kinds of information resources. Frequently, “the Web is used for deployment of educational and commercial material” (Web,1).
Educators are using the Web to post course notes, syllabi, homework assignments, and even exams and quizzes. Companies are using the Web for advertising, publicity, and to sell products.
The two websites I chose are yahoo and Google. These are search engines both serve almost the same purpose but people prefer Google to search lets compare and see why is that so. With search Web sites getting millions of hits per day, performance of Web servers is becoming a critical issue. Web servers that do not respond quickly under heavy loads can slow down network connections, deny service for visitors and cause network failures.
Web server performance can be analyzed from different viewpoints. For instance, a Web user's perception of performance has to do with fast response time and no connections refused. On the other hand, a Webmaster's perception of performance is oriented towards high connection throughput and high availability.
As a Webmaster you might know that the search engine Google does an update mostly once a month. Several days before the updated database is available at www.google.com you can get a preview of the new data index at “www2.google.com and www3.google.com” (Web 2). While that update period the search results vary from time to time so the update got the name Google Dance.
To compare the results of all three servers at a glance there exists several tools on the web which show the result pages of Google side by side or one below the other. The Google Dance Tool on this site, that you can download and use for free, shows a permanent entry field for the search terms and the buttons to select the horizontal and vertical frame structure.
