Process refers to the methods, steps, or procedures used to accomplish tasks and subtasks (jobs). It is an overlooked and often misunderstood cognitive activity. It is the way in which we organize and apply specific and general information to accomplish means and end(s). It is heavily dependent on the culture's frame of reference. One may liken this framework to a computer's operating system, a set of preprogrammed instructions that are responsible for handling all future program tasks and subtasks.
The Eastern unitary operating systems enable the user multipurpose approaches, whereas Western operating systems guide people into running linear programs. The function of process resembles that of an operating system in a computer. All human thinking follows a pattern like that of an operating system. This operating system can be designed for each activity or action (the linear approach) or it can be designed for all actions (the unitary approach).
Once people learn an operating system, they add different programs to the basic system. Humans, however, did not copy the computers, but the computers have had to copy the humans. The computer using an operating system may contain as many additional programs as the system will allow. If there is not enough memory, more may be added, but the operating system still remains intact. The same operating system can be used for playing games, telling time, doing math, writing, drawing, designing products, filing and storing information, and so forth. Several computer operating systems are available on the market. For example, although Apple and IBM both run programs, they do not use the same operating system and therefore cannot run the same programs without assembly language. Some day they may agree to use the same operating system. As for now, they have decided it is in their best interest to maintain their own operating systems. 1
