Essay on Gender in Education Relating to Reading and Mathematics
According to proper researches and statistical data available, studies have concluded that boys and girls do have profound variances during reading text and solving mathematics. This is mainly due to biological differences, deriving from genetical differences. This is not something new as it has existed since the inception of man on earth. Even when development did not take place girls were expected to gather objects, while the boys hunted. It is the difference between the traits possessed by both the genders. Basically according to observations girls are considered to be extremely tactful with visual cues and so are good with reading. On the other hand, boys focus on imagining objects, which makes them better in handling mathematics. “Boys are more comfortable exploring characters and feelings”
According to Arm-strong Hall boys find it easier to multiply 7 times 5. In other words, the abstract form is better for them. In case of girls, when they are asked what is 7 times 5, they often add up five, 10, 15, 20 and so on. "While the boys were passionate about the literate activities they pursued outside of school, they usually saw school literacy as a tool, not something to be passionate about" (Smith Wilhelm).
Actually not all girls and all boys are the same. Hormones, genetic conditions may also often cause learning disabilities. Therefore as per the studies conducted, children with underdeveloped male spatial skills can be taught how to focus better and strengthen mentally imagined concepts. This resultantly improves their math skills.
There are four skills each in the two genders which are commonly found in them at the primary or elementary level only. The first female skill is that they are very good in finding objects in clustered fields for example finding a picture or any given information in a certain table...........
