Essay on School-Community Relations
The rationale for engaging school-community relations programs through school-related activities is obvious. However, the keys to effective parental involvement are complex and challenging. Many of the attributes of an individual that underlie resiliency or risk to health or social problems are acquired in the family setting. Qualities such as self-esteem, confidence, decision-making skills, assertiveness and social bonding are all strongly affected by the parenting we receive.
Non-understanding of the goals, needs, and accomplishments of the total education program are the main problems face by school for school-community relations (Web, 1). Administration also overlooks staff members and faculty members. Board also concentrates only on the positive and good news.
Parental involvement and partnerships among school staff, parents, and community stakeholders have been found to have a positive impact on all aspects of young children's school performance.
Despite an increasing emphasis on the importance of such collaborations, many educators are at a loss to identify mechanisms to encourage family-school partnerships in the formalized learning environments in which they work (Web, 1). This problem is exacerbated even further when examining services provided to young children in rural settings who have been identified as being at-risk for later school failure.............
