The most important thing about them is that they have more than 1200 stores around the world; Border Corporation in their specific field occupies almost the entire market of United States and England and have approximately 3200 employees all over the world (About Borders Group).
Assets:
The term financial assets not just describe cash, but also those assets, which are easily and directly convertible to the known amount of cash. These assets include cash, short-term investments (also called marketable securities), and receivables. All these types of financial assets will be discussed under a single header, because they are closely related to each other (Garrison).
Short-term Investments:
Companies with large amount of liquid resources usually hold most of these resources in the form of marketable securities rather than cash. Marketable securities consist primarily investments in bonds and in the capital stocks of publicly owned corporations. These marketable securities are traded (bought and sold) daily on organized security exchanges, such as the New York's stock exchange, Tokyo's stock exchange, and the Mexico's Bolsa. A basic characteristic of all marketable securities is that they are readily marketable, which means that they can be easily purchased or sold at quoted market prices.
Account Receivable:
One of the key factors underlying the growth of world economy is the selling of goods on account. Account receivables comprise the largest financial assets of many merchandising companies. Account receivables are relatively liquid assets, usually converting cash with in the period of thirty to sixty days. Therefore, account receivables from costumers are classified as current asset, appearing in the balance sheet after cash and short-term investments in marketable securities.
