Essay on Olmec Civilization: 1200 BC- 600 AD
American history does not date back to the 15th century, or to what we term as modern history, when Columbus landed on this continent in 1492, more than 500 years ago. But American history actually began some ‘30,000 years ago’. The ancient ages can be linked to the historical events around the 15th and 16th century, when the Europeans competed to enter and inhabit the American continent. Thus a new nation was born when the Europeans introduced the people of Africa as a subservient force in America.
The Era of Slavery began with the introduction of the African people in the American continent. The European elite, forming the major part of the Southern section of North America, therefore commonly known as the South, made use of these forced immigrants as their slaves. Slaves were bought and sold, and became movable property of the owner, who paid a good bundle for them. These slaves were treated with grave cruelty by their owners, meted out brutal treated and tortured for the smallest fault. The death of a slave was mourned as long as a replacement wasn’t found, and once a ‘good slave’ was purchased the lost property was no longer considered.
As the cruelty and harsh treatment increased, slaves tried running away from their ‘homes’ to the more amiable North, which was slave-friendly. Finding refuge and sympathy here, a movement was started which lead to a tremendous upheaval, political and social, which ended in a civil war, which change the state of America as it was in the 15th century. The importance of studying the colonial age of America helps in formulating an understanding of the major political, economic and social expansions in succeeding ages in making the American History.Although this era was an important time that changed the face of American history, one will not be able to understand the complexity.....
