Essay on Themes and Events of the Baroque Period
Baroque period (1600-1750) is era in the history of the Western arts in which the art and architecture in the world was very ornate and fancy (The Dallas Symphony Association, 2001). The work that distinguishes the Baroque period is stylistically complex, even contradictory. In general, however, the desire to evoke emotional states by appealing to the senses, often in dramatic ways, underlies its manifestations.
Some of the qualities most frequently associated with the Baroque are grandeur, sensuous richness, drama, vitality, movement, tension, emotional exuberance, and a tendency to blur distinctions between the various arts.
It covers the period between 1600 and 1750 beginning with Monteverdi (birth of opera) and ending with the deaths of Bach and Handel. During the Baroque period, royalty and church leaders were focused on being the best and brightest and showing off their finest things- including music written for them (The Dallas Symphony Association, 2001).
