The role and status of women in Egyptian society was superior compared to other major civilizations and empires of the ancient world.  This was because the Egyptians were family oriented people who considered that home and family are the two main source of spending a delightful and joyful life. Although the head of the family was usually the man like many Asian countries but this does not always meant a difference between a man and a woman. Getting married and having children were always considered desirable and pleasing in order to extend the family.

Sometimes the wives were the domestic servants of the family whose offspring were given importance only when they grew up. But this also differs from women to women. Some of them were so strong that they ignored the traditional customs and were able to rule their families with the absolute force. Compared to women of other civilizations, the Egyptian women were lucky because they were allowed to engage themselves in many legal activities and their husbands considered and loved their children as human beings and not just because they were their concierge and caretakers.

The legal and economic rights, which Egyptian women enjoyed with Egyptian men can clearly be depicted in various Egyptian art and contemporary manuscripts. But the tombs, archaeological evidence and written records which shows the role of women in the ancient society usually belongs to the influential class and not the mediocre folks because they were the ones who were able to afford such things as an evidence for their coming generations and civilizations. With the passage of time and with the arrival of the new Kingdom, the non-elite women started to engage themselves in leaving such evidences. The Ptolemaic Period was the main era to which majority of these evidences belong.The Greeks conquered and occupied Egypt in 332 B.C.E. It was shocking to see that they allowed Egyptian women more rights.....
