Essay on Treaty of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles is the peace agreement signed at the end of World War I flanked by Germany and the Allies. It was negotiated all through the Paris Peace Conference held in Versailles opening January 18, 1919. Represented were the United States, Great Britain, France, and Italy; the German Republic, which had replaced the imperial German government at the end of the war, was excluded from the conference. Incorporated in the initial section of the treaty was the Covenant of the League of Nations, the world's primary international relations body, which was given the accountability for executing the terms of the various treaties, negotiated after World War I. The treaty was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles near Paris.
Even though the United States never ratified the Treaty of Versailles, as an alternative negotiating a separate peace with Germany, the signing ritual described in this Los Angeles Times article of June 29, 1919, emblematically ended World War I.
