Essay on Christology
Christianity is a group of religious traditions that trace their origins to “Jesus Christ, a Jew of the first century C.E., and assert that he is God, the son of God and messiah the Lord and sole Savior of all humanity” (Rausch, 2003). Many people think of Jesus as a great religious teacher and even a prophet, but not the Divine Son of God. What did He really claim? Did He accept claims that He was the Christ, the Divine Son of God in the flesh, eternal, and our Savior? Some people that believe these claims were first made for Him by His followers long after He died. Did Jesus Christ ever claim he was God? One of the favorite modern arguments for the doctrine of the Trinity is that Jesus Christ claimed to be God, and that because of this, we must judge him to be either to be a liar, or insane, or speaking the truth.
Isaiah 9:6-7 “6 for to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (Wright, 2003). In this verse Jesus Christ not only distinguished himself from God; he identified his Father as the only true God, thus effectively denying the divinity of the ‘third person of the Trinity’ as well.....
