The impact of barbarians and Christianity on Rome gives an account for the formation of the Western European civilization. The amalgamation of the barbarian culture and the Roman culture together with the emphasis by Christianity made way for a changed culture in the west.The Christian faith has taken up much of the thoughts from other culture, absorbed and adapted them. At the time of the decline of the Roman Empire, the Christian church had grown. As a result of its synchronic (adaptive and assimilative) nature the Christian church took upon the roman system and hence adapted many of its organizational values. This resulted in attracting many people of the west to adapt the religion.

This organizational structure in the hierarchy of the religion made way for the bishops to preside over the pupil and indulge in impressive administrative and leadership skills. Then in the 312 the Roman Emperor Constantine legalized the religion in the rule and made way for the settlement of religious conflicts between the prior and the new religion. The progress of the Christian church in the declining Roman Empire was amazing. As the Christian church grew in power as a result of the efforts of Theodosius, Christianity was made the Roman Empire’s official religion.  This indicates that it was not the Christian faith that shaped the religion of the west, but instead it was the interest of the officials that made the religion assimilate the populace under its flag.

Much is attributed to these officials in uniting the theological basis of the church. In the year 325 Constantine send for the Council of Nicaea to offset the unorthodox Arian renouncing the divinity.It was the same council that formulated the Nicene Creed that promotes that Christ is similar to God and then Bishop Ambrose put forward that the authority of the church should be above to that of the state.....
