Essay on Traditional and Modern Chinese Family
For the previous two decades, Chinese families have gone through many vibrant changes. An innovative association and new standards of the modern Chinese family have replaced much of the aged arrangement and a lot of the old principles of the conventional Chinese family. The stereotyped outlook of the Chinese family was that of a large extended family, with more than a few generations and instant families all living under one roof, being a self sufficient and self-help institution for its members, providing child care and the care of the elderly. This is no longer true for the modern Chinese family. In Birmingham the Chinese family structure is mainly a nuclear one with husband and wife living with their children and sometimes their parents. Only a small number of Chinese families may have relatives living in their proximity.
Consequently, the Chinese family no longer performs the task of given that shared help with child care and care for the elderly outside their immediate relations. On the other hand, the Chinese continue to give emphasis to the values of family and to preserve close relations links. There is a strapping connection between parents, children and other family members. It is at a standstill usual that Chinese parents expect all their children to come back home for the Chinese New Year Eve's dinner and additional festival celebrations.
At the same time as Chinese men continue to occupy a dominant position in the family in terms of decision-making, Chinese women are acquiring greater equality with men as they contribute with their income or labor in their family business. Egalitarian roles are more widely accepted in families of Chinese professionals. Nevertheless, many Chinese families still feel that women's roles are primarily for the raising of children and the running of the home......
