Essay on Abrahamic Religions
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate “How do Abrahamic religions express oneness” and to give out quotations from Quran, Torah and Bible
Abrahamic religions is a term used in the study of comparative religion to describe those religions deriving from a common ancient Semitic tradition and traced by their adherents to Abraham, a patriarch whose life is narrated in the Hebrew Bible, and who is also important in the New Testament, and the Quran. This forms a large group of related, largely monotheistic religions, generally held to include Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and comprises about half of the world's religious adherents.
Islam
The fundamental concept in Islam is the oneness of God (Tawhid). This monotheism is absolute, not relative or pluralistic in any sense of the word. God is described in Sura al-Ikhlas, (chapter 112) as follows:Say He is God, the one, the Self-Sufficient master. He never begot, nor was begotten. There is none comparable to Him."Tawhid is the greatest foundation of Islamic belief. In fact, a person is considered as Muslim if he/She accepts that there is no god, but God and Muhammad is His servant and His messenger to humankind. As Quran, Chapter-2: Bakarah-The Cow says:
Allah. There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Supporter of all. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is thee can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them.
