Essay on Organization against Child Abuse
Child abuse is one of the most hate able crimes in the human history, because this perpetration not only gives birth to ever lasting suffering and pain to the victim personally but his or her families are also the victim and they have to bear the negative effects of the disaster through out their lives.
The Victims of Child Sexual Abuse
Children and adolescents, regardless of their race, culture, or economic status, appear to be at approximately equal risk for sexual victimization. Statistics show that girls are sexually abused more often than boys are. However, boys' and, later, men's, tendency not to report their victimization may affect these statistics (Haj, 2001). Some men even feel societal pressure to be proud of early sexual activity (no matter how unwanted it may have been at the time). It is telling, however, to note that men who have been abused are more commonly seen in the criminal justice system than in clinical mental health settings.
Statistics & Prevalence
Sexual abuse in childhood is often not disclosed to anyone therefore, prevalence is difficult to determine. Most prevalence estimates are based on surveys of adults, which rely on memory and willingness to disclose and possibly relive the experience. The largest national survey, conducted in July 1985, found that 27% of women and 16% of men surveyed reported some type of sexual abuse before the age of 18. Sixty two percent of the male victims (9% of all male respondents) and 49% of female victims (13% of all female respondents) reported actual or attempted intercourse (Mike, 2000). Forty-two percent of the male victims and 33% of the female victims had never disclosed the experience to anyone. In general, literature suggests that (1) the rate of child sexual victimization is much higher than it was once believed to be; (2) females are victimized more often than males during childhood......
