Essay on Distinctions between Atomism and Wholism
The word atomism derives from the ancient Greek word atomos which means "that which cannot be cut into smaller pieces." (This is the case for the Western [i.e., Greek] theories of atomism. Buddhists also have well-developed theories of atomism, and which involve momentary, or non-eternal, atoms, that flash in and out of existence. If atomism is the idea that anything might ultimately consist of an aggregation of small units that cannot be sub-divided further, then "atomism" might be applied to even the aggregations of society or logic.
It is theory, which studies the subject matter of the doctrines, which are a set of other constituents. The term atomism can be applied to any other discipline, which can further be subdivided into other ultimate constituents. For instance in case of the social theory we explain that the all the social institutions comprise of the individual men. Then we will say that the theory comes under the notion of atomism. The most important doctrine of the atomism is that there can be authentic investigation of the system or process unless it comes to its ultimate sub division. Till the process of the division continues it can not be studied until and unless its last constituent is not reached. Although the theory is easy to explain theoretically but practically it is not because it is not easy to show real structures and their, which have led to doubts about atomism.
It takes the shape of the theory it is applied at. When atomism is applied in sociology or political science it may give rise to the principle that the individual people comprise the atoms which constitute the groups and their acts become the social processes taken place in the society. As in the field of psychology atomism will give rise to the theory that the perceptions or sensations taking place in the mind of a person constitutes of smaller parts.......
