Essay on Should gay or Lesbian Parents be Allowed to Adopt Kids?
Gay men and lesbians have been adopted children since quite a long time but they never came on the scene or never revealed their sexual identity. Today, as they have become more visible in all aspects of society, they are determined to be considered seriously as potential adoptive parents. This may become easier in light of the fact that the number of gay and lesbian biological parents in the United States has increased dramatically during the past two decades. As Ann illustrates that, “In 1976, there were an estimated 300,000 to 500,000; today, there are an estimated 1.5 to 5 million lesbian mothers and 1 to 3 million gay fathers.
I personally believe that gay and lesbian parents should be allowed to adopt kids. One of the major reasons why I want to support this idea is that right now there is a critical shortage of adoptive and foster parents in the United States due to which there are thousands of children who have no permanent home. As Wendell writes,” It is estimated that there are 500,000 children in foster care nationally, and 100,000 need to be adopted. But last year there were qualified adoptive parents available for only 20,000 of these children.” (Wendell, 1990) I think that it is much better that the children be adopted by the homosexual parents who have proper home, ample of many to give these children proper education and raise them as accepted human beings in the society, rather than these children staying at foster cares and become victim of being foster children or unadoptable......
