Essay on Effects of Fatherhood
During the past decade, family issues such as marriage and fatherhood have rocketed to the top of the domestic-policy agenda. But unfortunatly for many decades fathers and fatherhood were neglected issues for research and policy as well. What does fatherhood actually mean? Fatherhood means parenthood.
Strong and positive families are important in helping to break the cycle of incarceration. Mothers and fathers are the most important persons in child’s life. Most children do best when their mothers and fathers engage in what developmental psychologists call authoritative parenting. This style of parenting involves spending time with children, providing emotional support giving everyday assistance, monitoring children’s behaviour, and providing consistent, fair and proportionate discipline.Mothers tend to provide more emotional warmth for their children, fathers provide a strong sense of security, but there are still large differences between the role-performance of mothers and fathers. Mothers are more concerned with parenting issues and more self-critical.
Family life is characterized by different duties and activities of child care. Some of these activities are disposable. One can choose if one wants to visit a zoo together with the child. Other tasks are necessary and inevitable.The involvement of caring, responsible fathers offers many positive benefits for children. Typically, children who grow up with an involved father do better in school, are less likely to drop out, have higher self-esteem, experience fewer emotional and behavioral problems, are less likely to engage in criminal behavior, and are less likely to engage in high risk behaviors such as drug use and early sexual activity .
Mothers who receive financial support from their children’s fathers during pregnancy are less likely to have low birth weight babies – a risk factor that can contribute to lifelong health problems.
