Essay on Gangs and school violence
Through out America, school violence is increasingly becoming more than just the game of a bully on the playground. It is increasing to great magnitude and this dilemma must be dealt with by a collective effort of all the members of the society. School violence basically begins with the bully on the playground, or it may start out with simple pushing and shoving in the lunch line. However, if the right sets of circumstances are provided, something, which can be prevented with adequate supervision, instead turns into a deadly dilemma.
A number of papers exist that focus on the causes and subsequently offers solution to deal with the rising incident of gangs and school violence. There are many psychologists and clinical psychiatrists, along with a number of independent researchers have assembled many extensive lists and carried out a number of research studies on what may be the contributing factors or cause of school violence. The only common denominator that exists among all of these researches is the fact that there is no one single determining factor.
In one article by Louise Last, she outlined the various reasons that lead children to join these gangs from a psychological point of view. In this article Louise says that the roots of school violence is not in the school. Most of the behaviors demonstrated by the children are learned responses to circumstances and situations, which are usually exhibited in their daily life. Home life environment is a major influencer on children. The article further explains that children who see violence think that violence is a solution to the problem.
