Essay on Impression Management
Impression Management is the control and regulation of information in order to influence impression formation or the attitudes or opinions of the people on whom such behavior is targeted. Through impression management one seeks to shape other people's impressions of a person (such as oneself, a friend, or an enemy) or of an event (such as an achievement or a failure).
Impression management that is focused on controlling impressions of oneself is called self-presentation. In social psychology, impression management is the procedure all the way through which people try to be in charge of the impersonation further people structure of them. It is more often than not identical with self-presentation. The hypothesis states that any person or associations have got to set up and preserve impressions that are matching with the perceptions they want to convey to their publics. From both a communications and public relations viewpoint, the theory of impression management encompasses the vital ways in which one establishes and communicates this congruence between personal or organizational goals and their intended actions which create public perception. The goal is for one to present themselves the way in which they would like to be thought of by the individual or group they are interacting with.
This form of management usually applies to the first impression. It is the goal-directed cognizant or insensible effort to sway the perceptions of other people about a person, object or event by regulating and scheming information in social communication.
