The study has been carried out for the purpose to find the effects of the interracial marriages specifically on the children and the families. During the study some of the families who engaged in the interracial marriages were also contacted and their views were obtained regarding the same issue. The written and web material was also consulted for the study.
The history of interracial marriages is known since ages when rulers and soldiers after conquering the lands far away from their sovereign territory, capture the women and married with them. The kings and the family members also used to marry the royal women from other kingdom to establish the relations. Sometimes it used to be part of the deal. The off shoots of those parents still exist in many part of the world.
The miscegenation in present days is strongly rejected in some of the western societies. Prohibitive laws have also been formulated in some of the states. Sometimes social isolation is also applied to the people involved in interracial marriage. This intolerance towards miscegenation originates from the old concepts of race and heredity. This is also linked to the racial supremacy theories and inferior status generally imposed to the dark skin people. In USA the restriction started from the time of slavery when the laws with strong penalties were formulated to Safe guard the interests of the slave masters to the off springs of the slaves.
These laws were ultimately declared unconstitutional in1967 by the Supreme Court. Even today the effects of the interracial marriages on children and families is seen with concern. In spite of the indifferent attitude towards interracial marriages the marriages are on increase. Some fifteen years ago in 1990 the interracial marriages had increased the figure of interracial marriages to 1,100,000,the figure that must have been multiplied many fold by the year 2004....
