Essay on Drug Abuse And The Effects On The Family Unit
Whenever the drugs are used more than the required prescribed amount with out medical direction or using such substances that areprohibited under the law that includes marijuana, cocaine and heroin falls into the definition of drug abuse. Even taking alcohol and nicotine in higher quantity is also drug abuse. The incessant use of high quantity of drugs and substances causes addiction.
There are normally two aspects of the human that is involved in the addiction; firstly is the body that gets addicted and secondly is the psychological aspect that is involved in addiction. The use of drugs for non-medical purpose is always considered quite dangerous trend in any society. The addiction not only poses the health problems to the addict but also has a number of social, community and family difficulties associated with it. Some of the substances may lead to criminal behaviours as well. The drugs that are abused have primarily the curative effect but its excessive use also cause different effects including depressions and intoxication.
Cannabinoids, disassociative anaesthetics and Hallucinogens and Stimulants are abused. Alcohol is the drug that is used by most of the population in the western world. In such a state of drug use the need is to find the reasons for the drug uses and these reasons must be attended at the earliest. The effective control on the reasons eradications will contribute towards reduction of the drug use. Although a lot of effort is already underway in almost all of the nations to overcome this social evil but it is felt that these efforts are not sufficient to control the problem.
