The Medieval European Society was divided into groups, according to status and prestige. In Boccaccio’s book ‘Decameron,’ he discussed about people from these different groups of the social classes. Boccaccio's book, Decameron, involves the social problems, which were on a rise during the fourteenth-century in Italy.

During this time period, a new social class of merchants entered the social set up, which greatly threatened the high status families. These families were had existed for a very long time, and had therefore planted their roots deeply in the traditional social pattern.The family members of any of the old, high status families were given immense importance. These families also possessed a very firm and stable social standing because they had sustained the age-old system of arranged marriages. Such marriages did not allow any outsider, apart from their social level; enter into the bond of marriage with their family members.

These families had been the top most amongst all the classes and had been enjoying the benefit of the ruling class, as they were into feudalism. They actually were a source of employment for the lower classes. The main reason for these families being so well-known and maintaining their position throughout was their proper planning and management of their employment and family affairs.Boccoaccio’s book ‘Decameron’ mentions all classes of the Medieval Europe from the nobles to the peasants and servants. Indeed, the traditionally old families, in terms of economically the top most, were the most prominent amongst all. Thus, there was an economic gap between the upper most and lowest class, known as that of the rich and the poor.

Eventually, when the merchant class gained quite a lot of economic strength, the already powerful class was threatened. Their economic position was at stake now and was socially not as powerful as they had been throughout.....
