In Hamlet, a play by William Shakespeare, the dynamic forces appear to be self-indulgence and vengeance. But if one delves extra intensely, one will locate motives other than these. If one asks oneself what is the foremost basis for vengeance in the play they will find that there is a woman at the hub of it. In the commencement of the play the spectators learns that the ruler has died and later discovers that it was his brother Claudius who killed him. In addition his appetite for the crown, what else might have goaded him to kill his brother? The answer is the queen, whom he married scarcely a month after her husband's death. The king himself admits this in his plea, saying, "Of those effects for which I did the murder, my crown, mine own ambition, and my queen". (Shakespeare, 1994)
Ophelia and Gertrude. Two dissimilar women who appear to be trapped in the same state of affairs in relation to Hamlet. They are analogous in a startling number of ways. It is moderately evident that both Gertrude and Ophelia are both provoked by love and a yearning for quiet familial harmony among the members of their society in Elsinore. Gertrude, Hamlet's mother and the Queen of Denmark. She is married to the present King, Claudius, who is suspected by Hamlet to have killed his father, King Hamlet, who also happens to be Claudius's brother. Gertrude has somehow ended up in the plot of King Hamlet's death and in the eyes of her son, seems to be a monster and an aide to an adulterating deed.
It is alluring to express disapproval of Gertrude as evil, but it is probably more rational to consider her as scrawny and unpredictable. Hamlet's heartfelt line Frailty, thy name is woman sums up his view of her actions early in the play.
