Essay on Fate and Free Will

Fate is a set track of proceedings measured to be ahead of human power. While Free Will is the control or capacity of the human mind to choose a course of action or make a choice devoid of being subject to restraints imposed by antecedent causes, by inevitability, or by heavenly predetermination. A totally freewill work is itself a reason and not an effect; it is beyond causal sequence or the law of causality. The question of human beings' ability to determine their actions is important in philosophy, particularly in metaphysics and ethics, and in theology. Usually, the intense set of guidelines in which liberty of the will is affirmed is termed libertarianism; its opposite, determinism, is the doctrine that human action is not willed freely, however is rather the result of such influences as passions, desires, physical conditions, and external conditions beyond the control of the person. (A.J. Fisichella)

As far as the authenticity is concerned, it cannot be consequential to talk about destiny or free will. For there to be fate, there would have to be someone to whom separate things could happen or who could observe other things happening in some predetermined manner. For there to be free will, there would have to be someone who could choose between separate things. All of these ways of thinking belong to the illusory world of duality. Free will implies choice.

It means that we can act - we can choose and then we can act upon that choice. It assumes, therefore, that there is such a thing as cause and effect. Our choice becomes a cause for our effective action. All of this, then, is in contradiction of the idea of 'fate', which implies that something will happen regardless of our choices and actions; that an effect will occur, regardless of the causes that are in place.
