In an ethnicity of bumper-sticker ideologies, where liberals and conservatives alike wear their morals more contentedly and more straightforwardly on their cars than on their tongues, it is probable that we would swap true patriotism with symbols for patriotism. There are American flags on more or less every house on my street and slogans (United We Stand) on fast-food billboards around town.
