In the study of mythology, folklore and religion, a trickster is a god, goddess, spirit, human hero or anthropomorphic animal who breaks the rules of the gods or nature, sometimes maliciously but usually with ultimately positive effects.Captain Jack Sparrow acts as a modern trickster in The Pirates of the Caribbean.
Captain Jack Sparrow is a pirate who used to command the legendary ship Black Pearl. About ten years prior to the start of the movie, while searching for a legendary cache of Aztec gold his crew mutinied and marooned him on an island with a pistol containing a single shot (in order to kill himself instead of letting starvation kill him). However, he escaped, and went looking for revenge against the leader of the mutiny: First Mate (now Captain) Barbossa.
He kept the pistol and single shot for the purpose of shooting Barbossa with it. However, when he returns to dry land, the occupying British forces attempt to arrest Sparrow for his previous crimes - which include piracy, for which he has been branded on the forearm by the British East India Company.
