Essay on Contributions of Rome
Romans are remembered around the world for some of their significant contribution to art and architecture. They were considered as the greatest builders and constructors in the ancient world. Although most of the buildings and structures use ideas and draw heavy influence from the Greeks, Romans also had a unique style of architecture.
The use of columns and arches in their structures and buildings was adopted from the Greeks and Etruscans. Romans have adopted and designed better arches; they have improved on them by inventing the dome. The dome is constructed by making a roof made of many rounded arches. This is one of the reasons why many tourist still visit many of the domes built by the Romans. Among these are the structures of domes mixed with modern as well as primitive art. These include 10,000 statues, 700 public pools, 500 public fountains and 37 gates within Rome alone. In Pompeii, an Italian city a townhouse owned by a wealthy roman would necessarily have a front door, an atrium along with a pool, many roman and Greek style bedrooms, an office, a kitchen constructed on the styles of roman architecture.
