Born on 26th May 1928, Jack Kevorkian, an M.D. by profession is considered by many the most controversial American pathologist. He is famous for advocating right to die' for a terminally ill patient. He has also assisted many patients to end their lives.
Dr Kevorkian in 1987 begins advertising himself in various papers in Detroit as a "physician consultant" for patients requiring "death counseling." Dr Kevorkian earned the name of "Dr. Death" in the start of his career as a pathologist, when he conducted several experiments on the eyes of dying people.
He photographed eyes of dying patient and suggested them as a good diagnostic tool for establishing if a patient is in a comatose state or whether he is dead. Moreover, Dr Kevorkian also favored and promoted transfusion process to be carried from the recently dead patients to those patients who were living.
Between the span of eight years of 1990 to 1998, Dr Kevorkian assisted 100 patients reported to be terminally ill in committing suicide. Dr Kevorkian in 1989 invented a suicide machine called as "Thanatron". This machine Thanatron was designed in such a way to so as to get rid off all the dirty brain plasma or splash that would result from a shotgun fore. It made suicide for these patients as pain free. The machine is designed in a way so that patients can themselves pull the trigger on the machine, thus giving themselves lethal poison via an IV tube.
In all the assisted suicide cases, Dr. Kevorkian just assisted them; the patients had the right and will to press the trigger or not. These patients took voluntary euthanasia and died of it, whereas Dr. Kevorkian simply provided them the facilitation of taking their life painlessly.
It were the patients finally who took there own life. Dr. Kevorkian assisted the death of the patient only by attaching the patient to a device that will take the patients life if the patient pulled the trigger. Two deaths have been reported to have been caused by the Thanatron. Thanatron is also known as the death machine.
