Essay on A Jury of Her Peers

In A Jury of Her Peers, written by Susan Glaspell, is a story that spins around the unexpected death of John Wright. The story includes five characters. These five basic characters are to play a part in the investigation of this Mr. John Wright's sudden death. These candidates are employed with the task of finding a clue that suggests that Mrs. Wright, who is held as the primary suspect, has murdered her husband. (Mustazza, 489-96)

The ill-fated death of Mr. John Wright was so sudden that it raised many questions in the minds. The court appoints a team of persons, which include the sheriff, the attorney of the county, Mr. Hale, and Mrs. Peters, sheriff's wife. These people were assigned to find a reason behind Mr. John Wright's sudden death. Later, Mrs. Hale was invited to join the party for the primary reason to give the sheriff's wife Mrs. Peters, the sheriff s wife, some camaraderie.

In the story Martha Hale and her husband along with the sheriff and his wife visit the secluded house that is home for the Wrights. Hale discloses to the sheriff that he found Mr. Wright's body that was strangled to death last morning. Mrs. Wright, on the other hand, declares that she has no knowledge of as who killed Mr. Wright. She was, however, arrested and is awaiting her charges.

The story excitement starts off when Mrs. Hale and sheriff's wife are assigned to collect all the clothing and deal with her preserves. The men in the group make fun of the women's "trifles" and then teasingly warn them that they should focus on the job assigned and not to miss clues, before they dedicate themselves to a "more serious" task of discovery of a motive.
