Introduction
The gang culture persists in the local and regional level community of USA and adjoining nations. It is estimated that over 30,000 gangs are operating in America alone that have employed about 800,000 members. These gangs are having tremendous amount of pressure on the law enforcement agencies as illegal activities increase because of these gangs [1].One of the organized gang of America today is commonly known as MS - 13 Mara Salvatrucha. The activities of this gang are continually spreading from urban areas to rural areas.
Members of this Group are youngsters and adults males and females well organized with some common purpose involve themselves in criminal activities. When the civil war commenced in El Salvador in 1980 the large number of people had fled from the country and had taken refuge in America. These immigrants had settled in Washington D.C and southern part of California. Some of the members of the El Salvadorian organized gang Named 'La Mara' had also shifted to America. Similarly some other gang members also moved to America during the civil war particularly Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMNL).
Members of these groups were experts in making explosives and urban area fighting techniques including use of fire arms and booby traps. Refugees from El Salvador were not welcomed by the residents of Hispanic community already living in Los Angeles. The local Hispanic gang's were regularly targeting the refugees. To protect themselves the El Salvadorian gang members of La Mara and FMNL formed a combined gang in later part of the year 1980 with the name of Mara Salvatrucha (MS). This gang was basically formed to protect the refugees but soon it turned out to be a violent organization.
The gang is now expanded its activities in many parts of America. The contacts of this gang out of America have given it a new dimension of an International violent gang. Initially the gang members were only El Salvadorian and not other community was allowed to become the member and now nationals from Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico can also be recruited as members. The gang members are generally from age group of 11 to 40.
