History and the Year it was Formed

When the civil war commenced in El Salvador in 1980 the large number of people had fled from the country and had taken refuge in America. These immigrants had settled in Washington D.C and southern part of California. Some of the members of the El Salvadorian organized gang Named 'La Mara' had also shifted to America. Similarly some other gang members also moved to America during the civil war particularly Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMNL). Members of these groups were experts in making explosives and urban area fighting techniques including use of fire arms and booby traps. Refugees from El Salvador were not welcomed by the residents of Hispanic community already living in Los Angeles. The local Hispanic gang's were regularly targeting the refugees. To protect themselves the El Salvadorian gang members of La Mara and FMNL formed a combined gang in later part of the year 1980 with the name of Mara Salvatrucha (MS). This gang was basically formed to protect the refugees but soon it turned out to be a violent organization. The gang is now expanded its activities in many parts of America. The contacts of this gang out of America have given it a new dimension of an International violent gang.
