Essay on "Yet do I Marvel" & "I Too," - A Review of the Literature
The two poems, "Yet do I Marvel" & "I Too," by Countee Cullen and Langston Hughes respectively seems to be portraying a similar theme that is racial identity and injustice. Where Cullen seems to be complaining of not being able to resolve the dilemma of being black and a poet, Hughes simply points out the injustice in very uncomplicated verses and reveals a ray of hope in the end.
Both the poems were written in an era when the white supremacy was at its peak in the American culture and the class system was a common practice, but the two poems have a very different approach to the same line of thought.
