PLOT:
Film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" revolves around the idea of bi-racial marriage in late 1960's. Joey, a daughter of white family (Draytons) wants to marry a black African-American doctor, John Prentice. Her decision is shocking for the entire family and everyone showed varied response. However, John is stick to the point that he would not go ahead with the marriage until he had a 'yes' from all the family members. Though Joey (Katharine Houghton) is raised to take her decisions by herself and choose for her life partner, this is not acceptable for her parents, Matt and Christina Drayton.
CHARACTERS
John Wade Prentice is a successful black doctor who works for the United Nations' World Health Organization. John intends to marry his love Joey, after his first wife and child died in an accident eight years back. Joey (Joanna) Drayton is a young white woman falls in love with John. She lives in San Francisco but came for a vacation in Hawaii. She's very polite and good-natured woman. She's anti-racial, open-minded and very determined in taking her decisions. Although, racial differences exist in her society and her parents strongly oppose this marriage, she's firm to marry John. Matt Drayton, Joey's father, is a rich person who publishes San Francisco newspaper.
He's liberal advocate of racial equality and civil rights, though, marriage of his white daughter with a black man is unacceptable to him. He is unable to acquire his liberal philosophy in his own life. Christina Drayton, wife of Matt, runs art gallery and has been a supporter of civil rights. But she's shocked and not happy with this marriage. Though, later she accepts the decision of her daughter. Monsignor Ryan is a family friend of Draytons. He is a Catholic priest, a very tolerant and liberal minded....
