Essay on Philosophy of Education
Originally, ancient philosophers who sought an obliging purpose for its establishment theorized “The philosophy of education”. They described it as the study of the purpose, process, nature and ideals of education. This can be related to the perspective of education as a social institution, or more generally as the development of human existential growth. For example, how it is that our indulgent of the world is frequently distorted, regardless of facts, social customs, experiences, or even our own emotions. Questions that arouse comprise the nature of the knowing mind and the human subject, problems of authority, the relationship between school and society, the learner-teacher dynamic, and so on.
Although, fundamental purposes had been recognized that governed the purpose of institutional education. They included: The venture of civil society depends on educating young people to develop into responsible individuals, considerate and innovative citizens. This is a complicated, and demanding task requiring deep thoughts of moral values, principles, political theory, aesthetics, and economics; and not to mention an understanding of whom children are, in themselves and in society. Secondly, development in every realistic field depends upon having aptitudes that schooling can educate. Education therefore is a means to nurturing the individual's, society's, and even humanity's prospect growth and success. Importance is often put on economic success in this consideration. Lastly, One's individual maturity and the competence to fulfill one's own principles can depend upon a sufficient preparation in childhood. Education consequently can challenge to give a solid base for the accomplishment of individual fulfillment.
In “Education for Modern Man”, Sidney Hook persuades the readers to consider what the sole purpose of education really is. She also argues that the end of educations is a critical aspect that individuals should look at. She quotes John Dewey’s words:
"It is true that the aim of education is development of individuals to the utmost of their potentialities......................
