Essay on Nietzsche Was Right
Religious genuineness emerges from the junction between practices of the heart and an undefined dissertation of human community. As exacting traditions and humanity evolve, they learn to coexist as regulative ideals of a more rational and just world. An individually self-appropriated Christian does not lean on doctrines or rational truths but beholds an objective uncertainty of faith. Nietzsche unmasks Christianity in its ruse of self-deceptive morality. A postsecular prophet of the godless age, Nietzsche announces the transvaluation of humanity and a deconstruction of religion. Freed from the normative straitjacket of unifying rationality and authoritarian God, Nietzsche embraces self-creating, earthbound, proto-postmodern mysticism.
Nietzsche retains the influence to fascinate. At the same time as educational philosophy has retreated to the diffuse margins of the public traditions, this all-too-human prophet of our disturbed modernity continues to fascinate a wide variety of thinkers and writers. They are not drawn to him by his excursions into metaphysics or the theory of knowledge. Rather, Nietzsche's troubled meditations on truth he oscillated between denying that it could ever be known and seeing it as the destroyer of humanity's most cherished illusions were not so much contributions to epistemology as records of his search for a viable alternative to Christian belief. In the same way, when Nietzsche disinterred the "genealogy of morality" his aim was not to come up with a theory of ethics. It was to consider what became of morality once its support in religion was taken away. He understood, valiantly, that with the passing of Christianity both the authority and the content of morality were bound to change. (BUSCH, PETER)
If Nietzsche remains inexhaustibly mesmerizing, it is for the reason that he embodies, in a tremendous structure, the dilemmas of sacred thinkers in a post-Christian age. Nietzsche spent his life searching for an alternative to Christianity..............
