Ethics are always present in every field of life, but the important part is that who is maintaining this certain level of ethics and who is not. It is basically the realization factor, that is, does an individual or a working group place value on the issue of ethics. Every organization or firm needs to maintain its work ethics which lead on to different categories such as employee ethics, technological ethics, and engineering ethics and so on. Therefore it is the firm’s responsibility to maintain such controlled working operations.
Technological misuse is quite prevalent these days due to the fast pace advancements taking place. The very basic meaning of a technological change is ‘the introduction of new ideas, technology, basically anything new.’ However, the ethical issue comes in here when the situation comes to as in how will a particular firm respond to this change. This change can be a negative or positive one. Therefore it is intelligent to adopt a change when it is a positive one, because a negative change can reflect an adverse image of the individual, a working group or an organization.
The primary objective of the firm must be to maintain its work ethics, even in terms of technology. This could be done by refraining from methods that would be destructive for the image of the organization. Even if such an act is committed by a company, then this means it has no limitations set for its working set up and is itself entirely responsible for the misuse of technology. “Engineering codes have changed dramatically over the last few decades, and a comparison of the changes illustrates changes in the nature of the engineering profession itself” (Harris 2000).
